For business owners

Your business has grown. Has your tax strategy?

Growing businesses need more than a tax return. We plan your business and personal taxes together, so you keep more of what you earn.

Sound familiar?

If you've felt this way, you're not alone.

You deserve a CPA who knows your business as well as you do.

  • Your tax bill keeps climbing, and no one has explained why.
  • You make big business decisions without knowing the tax impact first.
  • Your books run months behind, so every decision feels like a guess.
  • You suspect there are tax breaks you're missing, but no one has shown you what they are.

About us

Meet your CPAs.

We're Ying and Chris Pfau, a husband-and-wife team of CPAs. We started Lakemont to give individuals, families, and business owners the kind of proactive planning we'd want for our own family. That's why you'll work directly with us, not a rotating team of juniors.

Together we bring 25+ years of combined experience in tax and accounting, and we've put it to work helping some clients save six figures in a single year. We serve clients across the country, coordinating with your business and estate attorneys, financial advisors, and bookkeepers to build one cohesive plan.

Questions

Questions from business owners

When does tax planning make sense for my business?

Planning pays off most when you're starting a new business, growing fast, or your net profit starts to exceed $300,000. At each of these stages, the right strategy can save you a significant amount, and missing one can cost you just as much.

Timing matters too. Decisions like hiring, setting up a retirement plan, or adding employee benefits all carry tax consequences. So do other moves, like expanding, buying property, bringing on or buying out a partner, or selling your business. Once the decision is made, most of your options are locked in. Planning ahead lets you structure each move the smart way from the start, instead of discovering the tax cost after it's too late to change.

If you're not sure whether planning is worth it, we recommend getting our free tax diagnostic. Think of it as a second opinion on your taxes. Many clients are surprised by how much they've been leaving on the table.

What kind of businesses do you work with?

We work with professional service firms, with a particular focus on attorneys and law firms. Firms we work with include consultants, real estate professionals, medical practices, online service companies, and more. We serve everyone from solo owners to growing firms with employees.

Do you work with law firms?

Yes. We work with law firms of all practice types, from solo attorneys to multi-partner firms. We help with tax planning, entity structure, partner compensation, retirement plans for partners, trust account reconciliations, bookkeeping, and succession planning when a partner joins or retires.

What does a tax plan for my business include?

Your plan looks at your business and personal taxes together, from how your business is set up and how you pay yourself today to how you'll grow, bring on partners, or eventually sell.

It starts with a review of your past tax returns and books side by side to catch errors and missed deductions. We also analyze your profit and loss, chart of accounts, and the last 12 months of cash flow to see how money moves through your business and into your household. Then we conduct a number of strategy sessions to understand your goals, your business, and what's coming next.

From there, we deliver a written plan that summarizes our analysis and lays out clear next steps with estimated savings. Each recommendation cites the tax laws and regulations behind it. Reducing your taxes is only part of it. Your plan also helps make sure your records would hold up to an IRS review, so you avoid costly surprises down the road.

After we deliver your tax plan, we help you each year with your tax filings, estimated payments, and payroll deadlines, and update your plan as your business changes.

Can you take over our bookkeeping?

Yes. We can handle your books entirely, or work alongside your current bookkeeper and review their work.

When we manage your books, we keep your accounts reconciled each month, set up a chart of accounts that fits your business, coordinate payroll, issue 1099s, and prepare financial statements you can actually use.

The biggest advantage is that your bookkeeping and tax planning live under one roof. We see your numbers as they happen, so we can spot savings and flag issues during the year, not after it ends.

Our bookkeeping runs on a proven set of systems and trusted partners. That consistency is what keeps your books accurate and your tax planning on track. If your current systems don't fit our process, we're happy to work alongside your bookkeeper or recommend one who's a better fit.

How much does it cost?

We keep pricing simple. You pay a one-time fee to build your tax plan, then a fixed retainer that covers ongoing planning, tax filings, and unlimited consultations throughout the year. Bookkeeping is available as an add-on and is priced based on the size of your business. No hourly billing, and no surprise invoices.
